• Myth: Alcohol, even in moderation, has negative effects on the brain cells. Fact: Moderate drinking of alcohol will not destroy the brain cells, in fact, it aids in cognitive functions of the mind.

• Myth: Women can drink the same amount of alcohol as men as long as they have the same height and weight. Fact: The female body differs from the male body. So even if the two has similar weight and height, the way the body deal with the alcohol is different. Women have lesser “dehydrogenase”, the enzyme that metabolises alcohol.

• Myth: There is no cure to alcohol addiction. Fact: There is a cure and there will always be hope for alcoholics. There are in fact several alcohol addiction rehabilitation centres that alcoholics can visit to get the help they need. • Myth: Those who don’t drink alcohol are basically alcohol-free. Fact: The body has natural alcohol. So there is no one who is alcohol-free. But there are those who are free from bad alcohol.

• Myth: People who don’t get intoxicated have strong body resistance. Fact: People who can drink high amounts of alcohol without getting intoxicated have become tolerant for alcohol. This is a sign that the person may have become dependent or addicted to alcohol.
