Solving Teenage Acne - By Common sense

By: suegold

Teenage acne is best managed by the application of good old fashioned common sense. A change in diet needs to be implemented if acne is a problem. Some experts will say that diet does not contribute to acne however; diet does contribute to overall good health and wellbeing and is therefore an obvious place to start. Cutting out greasy foods, refined carbohydrates, sweets and chocolate and replacing them with fruits, vegetables and plenty of pure drinking water will help the body eliminate toxins through the digestive system rather than have them manifesting through the skin.

Keeping dirty hands away from the face and keeping hair from the face will help to keep the face clean. Facial acne spots are usually open and are hence liable to infection. The practice of good hygiene is always advised.

All sorts of teenage stresses including the stress of a bad relationship and examinations could make acne worse. Introducing some form of stress reduction technique into ones day activities may help to reduce the occurrence of acne. Boys are not always open to meditation but may be prepared to take up one of the meditative marshal arts such as Aikido.

Parents and teachers must be sensitive and not to belittle the problem of acne. Whilst those who have been through the acne stage will know that it is possible to emerge unscarred, with a clear skin, that fact will not be something the teenager can consider. All the teenager has is the present moment and in that moment he has spots. Sensitivity is essential.

Teenage acne skin sufferers are usually plagued with the temptation to use harsh skin preparations and scrubs on their acne in an bid to improve the situation. This will usually make their acne worse rather than better. Gentle acne skin care regime is best. The boys often will need some encouragement to use a mild facial skin care cleansers on their facial skin.

Medical help should only be sort only if after applying the common sense approach the acne skin fails to improve.

There is often huge temptation to pick at the acne spots but this should be resisted because it only makes the situation worse. Picking on the spots introduces infection which could then leave scars. This temptation should be resisted.

Young girls will be tempted to cover the acne using makeup. This could often exacerbate the acne. If make-up for any reason absolutely must be worn then brands that that are known to be non-comedogenic should be used. Teenage boys with acne may notice worsening of their acne when they start shaving. Experimentation will be needed with wet and dry shaves to see which works best.
