The Signs of a Teenager in Trouble with Alcohol and Drug Abuse

This is for all the parents out there in a mad world, filled with so many temptations that young minds can hardly cope. When your child is in trouble with alcohol and drug abuse how do you recognize? This is very important so stay with me to find out what the telltale signs for alcohol and substance abuse are.

Never jump to conclusions and jump the gun, this is the first and foremost. Either the other should not be ignored on the other side. The changes of adolescence of your teenager is indicated if there are one or more factors commonly associated with the substance abuse. However, do not wait to be so sure that it is too late to help your child in trouble.

I have listed below some of the more common signs that you as a parent should be vigilant for with regard to alcohol and drug abuse.

Withdrawal - when your child begins spending a very noticeable amount of time alone in the room, or starts avoiding interaction with family - it's time to get worried. Seclusion is a sure sign that something is wrong. Get your teenager's attention and be force full when you have to. You do what you have to and if needed let them have you.

Changing relationships - teenagers on the whole tend to be rather secretive about friends and their activities. They feel they are too grown up to tell Mom where they are going or what they are doing. our teenager keeps you in loop and still you need to be firm about ensuring your teenager.

Difficulties in school - The signs that indicate something is wrong are grades, truancy, unwillingness to do homework, lack of concentration.

Resistance to authority - Places of religious worship or any form of authority, rebelliousness towards parents, teachers, police.

Behavioral problems - Unexplained spending, anger demonstrate a problem needs to be tackled, stealing, shoplifting, lying, mood swings and use of foul or filthy languages

High-risk behaviors - The use of drugs by your teenager can be indicated by frequent traffic tickets, little regard for personal safety, resorting to violence, vandalism.

Signs of depression - The forms of irrational behavior like suicidal gestures, actual attempts at suicide and other behaviors.

Physical complaints - colds, flu's, vomiting, constipation, abdominal distress, headaches, tremors, tremors of the body, uncontrollable shaking of hands and legs.

Change in eating habits - With the accompanying weight gain or loss increase or decrease in eating habits.

Obvious signs of 'being under the influence' - Slurred speech, staggering, alcohol on breath, dilated pupils, exhilaration, hallucinations, panic, delusions.

There are many signs for finding out the abuse and the above are some of the common signs. You should also be on the lookout for symptoms like excessive sleeping, very little sleep, unusual injuries or syringe marks, sudden bleeding from the nose, excessive nervousness, irritability, rapid heart beats, higher blood pressure and sudden impaired thinking.

I would like to advice all parents not to ignore the signs but to act promptly to solve the problem. Seek help, get counseling - in short do whatever it takes to get your teenager out of the alcohol and drug abuse and into recovery.
