What are troubled teen boarding schools?

By: Roberto Bell Date posted:

Every teen has some problem or the other. I haven’t met a single teenager who hasn’t had a phase where he or she had felt that the world is out there to get them!

Some of them just go through that ‘phase’ by themselves and move on while at the same time many throw themselves in a downward spiral of emotional turmoil and anxiety. How as parents or even as the teenager who is troubled and misguided chooses to spend the next day holds the key to their future! There comes a time when ‘ignoring’ is not quite an option anymore.

Many programs are in the offing today to help your teenager cope with his troubles. Sending your child off to a boarding school or a boot camp could be an option. More and more parents are opting for boarding schools so as to put their children in professional hands and have them stay in controlled environment so that they can be monitored closely. In a typical boarding school for troubled teens, you get a lot of facilities that assist in enhancing your child’s mental, physical and emotional growth.

* Such boarding schools are generally located at a tranquil place and amidst beautiful surroundings to help inhabitants stay calm and focused. They are also mostly remotely located to provide the children with an option to break free from the negative environment.

* To enhance the inquisitive mind of the children, such schools generally encourage outdoor and vocational activities. There are hand-son opportunities of finding rocks, excavations, fossil finding, museum tours, etc.

* Boarding schools will also encourage the idea of working for what you get. Getting things easily, make everyone complacent and kids may easily stray away from the righteous path when they get things easily. In boarding schools meant for troubled teens one generally has to work for what he gets.

* The schools are also modeled such that students who do not comply to the rules and requirements and dropped stages in their progress, are not given privileges and takes longer to graduate from troubled teen boarding school.

* Any boarding school should ideally provide the children with a full-time therapist. There are facilities for individual guidance and discussion and opportunities for the troubled teen to open up his mind and thoughts.

* To encourage the physical growth of the children, there will be generally a fitness and physical trainer. Participation in physical activities is a must in boarding schools for troubled teens. This will enhance balance, coordination, strength, endurance and health for the troubled children. Children in such boarding schools are generally provided with the opportunities to take part in various activities like Spelunking, Intramural Sports, swimming, site seeing, repelling, hiking, working out at a local gym, camping, bowling, horse back riding, movies, dances, etc. The focus should be towards all round growth.

This was just an overview on how are boarding schools for troubled teens structured. You can learn more about boarding schools for troubled teen at schools for troubled boys.
