Sensory Integration Disorder in Children Adopted from Eastern Europe By : Harriet White McCarthy Sensory Integration Disorder is a condition in which incoming sensation and information are processed abnormally and perceived to be other than they actually are or are intentioned. A child may feel pain when very light touch is applied; another may feel nothing unless the pressure is very deep or significant. One child may see all things around him as a threat while another has dangerously little fear of injury. Sensory malfunction can exist in the realm of taste, sight, hearing, touch, or movement. In some cases, an individual's life will be significantly impacted. Since so many newly adopted children from Eastern Europe may have this condition, an evaluation is often indicated.
